Peleg Randall During the American Revolution, Peleg served as an Army Lieutenant. At the Second Battle of Saratoga, which began 7 October 1777, Peleg took command of his company, after his capatin had been killed. The battle resulted in the 17 October surrender of British General John Burgoyne and his 5,000 troops, to the American General Horatio Gates, and was responsible for bringing France into the war as an American ally. On 29 March 1773 Peleg had purchased 70 acres of land from his father. In 1783 he purchased additional land from Benjamin Palmer, presumably a relative of his wife. Peleg was united with the Baptist Church at Voluntown in 1784. He was licensed to preach 18 January 1789, and was ordained a minister 25 October 1792. He was an elder at the Fourteenth Baptist Church of Stonington in 1793. Peleg preached at the First Church of North Stonington for nearly 23 years. On 23 March 1814 Peleg sold his land at Voluntown to Moses Pendleton, and moved to Madison County, New York.
